Wassila Barret
A soul in motion…
Professional belly dancer, teacher and artistic director

What words
cannot say.
French with Algerian roots, Wassila grew up surrounded by the sounds of Middle Eastern and North African music. From an early age, she was fascinated by a dance that could tell an emotion, a story, an inner impulse.
At fifteen, she joined several dance schools. Each encounter enriched her journey: discovering a different approach, refining a movement, revisiting the fundamentals and pursuing ever more truthful expression.
She then travelled to Cairo, a centre of belly dance, to train and attend numerous workshops with renowned artists in Egypt. Training, festivals and local performances shaped her stage presence.
One artist.
Many horizons.
Sought after for her elegant and captivating artistic world, Wassila performs regularly in Cairo and shares her art in Paris, Mauritius, China and Spain.
Based on Réunion Island, she helps bring belly dance performances to a wider audience across the island. Restaurants, weddings, cultural stages, hotels and events for private clients, municipalities and businesses become settings for creations tailored to each audience.
In her shows, technical precision gives way to living interpretation: musicality, nuance, grace and spontaneity interact at every moment.
